A determined woman raises her daughter, born with severe genetic abnormalities. She's helped immeasurably by her mothers, a young neighbor, and a doctor who's the brother of her husband, who left their marriage when young Julia was born.
When Dianne Parker marries Mark McCune, their lives couldn't be more perfect -- until fate intervenes. Dianne discovers that she is pregnant with a child who will be born with multiple disabilities. She is determined to have the child, but Mark runs away, unable to face what will certainly be a difficult situation. Dianne loves the baby, Julia, dearly, as does her mother, Hannah, and Mark's brother, David, Julia's pediatrician. Dianne and Julia are also helped by a spirited young girl, Amy, from a troubled family that lives nearby. Unbeknownst to Dianne, David has carried a torch for her for a long time and is always there for her and Julia. Hannah realizes that David is in love with Dianne and tries to get them together, but Dianne resists her efforts. Dianne still holds out hope that Mark may come around. When Mark does return, his presence forces Dianne and David to deal with their long-buried emotions about him, as well as their own relationship.
