Nelson Nagarauk, an Inuit teenager in conflict with his tradition-bound family, finds a half-frozen Russian woman from a weather station in a remote area of the Canadian Arctic. He tries to revive her, but the next day a helicopter abruptly takes her away. Later, on television, another woman is shown as the person he rescued from the wilderness. A journalist, with Nelson's aid, starts an investigation in which military intrigue is unearthed. In the meantime, Nelson comes to a spiritual understanding when he confronts his conflict with his traditional roots.
