It looks like Game of Thrones fans are going to have to wait a little bit longer for season seven of the HBO series to air.
According to CBS News, shooting for the series’ seventh season has been pushed back. The production will begin filming later this summer with most of the scenes being shot in Northern Ireland and portions being filmed in Spain and Iceland.
The decision to push back shooting came from executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who wanted to utilize the season’s changing weather.
“Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the story lines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming. “Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”
With the pushed-back debut, Game Of Thrones will be ineligible for a nomination at next year’s Emmys. On Friday, it was announced that the series received a whopping 23 Emmy nominations for season six, including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
In addition to the late premier, Game Of Thrones’ next season will be the shortest one yet. Instead of the usual 10 episodes, season seven will have just seven episodes.
