Synopsis

After the Inkpen-Thomas family, owners of Inkpen Manor in Midsomer Deverell, announces that their memorial garden will no longer be open to the public, a series of murders occurs in and around the village. Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby visits Inkpen Manor gardens and attends the village meeting about the closure. Heated debate ensues. The next morning, a woman is found dead in the garden, her head bashed in with a spade. Later that evening, Barnaby discovers another woman dead -- she had been force-fed pasta containing hemlock. Soon after, the founder of the garden is also found dead. There is talk of affairs and fears that disclosure could ruin the hopes of a son of a distinguished resident to become a bishop. Barnaby and Troy race to uncover the killer before another murder is committed.
