Here Are The Gendry ‘Game of Thrones’ Fan Theories You Should Know About

The last time we saw Gendry on Game of Thrones was at the end of the third season. He was rowing away to escape the Red Woman, Melisandre who wanted to burned him alive and use his “king’s blood” since he is Robert Baratheon’s bastard.

It’s been a while, so it’s unclear whether his character will ever come back into play, but that doesn’t mean fans haven’t come up with some very intriguing theories about the Baratheon bastard. Here are three Gendry theories Game of Thrones fans need to know about.

1. He might be able to forge Valyrian Steel and use it against the White Walkers.

The White Walkers are the biggest threat to everyone in the Seven Kingdoms, although only a small portion of people actually know about them. Since Gendry is a blacksmith, it has been a popular theory that he will come back and be able to make weapons with Valyrian Steel; the only known weakness of the White Walkers. According to a Westeros user cockmerchant,

“After the ‘war with the winter’ He’ll have proved himself vital to the realm, and take his seat as the head of house Baratheon.

2. Gendry isn’t a bastard at all.

A large part of Gendry’s story is that because he is King Baratheon’s bastard, he had to flee from King’s Landing, or be killed along with Robert Baratheon’s other illegitimate children. But, what if he is actually the legitimate heir? There is a theory that he is actually Cersei and Baratheon’s son.

User Color Pastels on Tumblr uses a mix of hints from the book and the show to back up their theory. One hint is that Gendry says that his mother had “yellow hair.” This could have been written off as blonde woman, but the description of the current dowager queen. The second clue is that Cersei and Robert were expecting a baby in the books, but Cersei had an abortion. There is a theory that the abortion never happens, and Cersei gave the baby to a whore. In the show Cersei tells Caitlyn that she lost a baby to a fever, so that might have been another way to cover up the baby’s existence.

3. Gendry, Arya, and Jon Snow could repeat history.

We know that Robert Baratheon and Eddard “Ned” Stark were best friends. Robert was also betrothed to Ned’s sister, Lyanna who was kidnapped. That pretty much started Game of Thrones. There is a theory on reddit that suggests that all of this may happen again with the next generation.

We saw Gendry and Arya getting along well when they met, however they were separated before any romance could be started. But there is a theory that Gendry and Jon Snow could become good friends, and Arya might become betrothed to Gendry only for things to go really bad really quickly. This might be pretty bittersweet for fans who ship Gendry and Arya.
