  ‘General Hospital’ Leads Daytime Emmy Nominees 

General HospitalLong-running soap opera General Hospital is leading the charge for this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards after landing a whopping 18 nominations.

The series, which Spider-Man star James Franco joined for a brief stint last year, will face off against The Young and the Restless — which garnered a total of 16 nods — for Outstanding Drama Series.

Soap operas are poised to steal the show — following with 13 nominations each are One Life to Live and cancelled drama As the World TurnsThe Bold and the Beautiful and All My Children received 11 and 10 nominations, respectively, and Days of Our Lives earned nine. 

Crystal Chappell (Guiding Light), Michelle Stafford (The Young and the Restless), Maura West (As the World Turns), Sarah Brown (General Hospital) and Bobbie Eakes (All My Children) will face off in the Outstanding Lead Actress category.

The Young and the Restless stars Peter Bergman and Doug Davidson will go head to head for Outstanding Lead Actor, along with Jon Lindstrom and Michael Park from As the World Turns, and James Scott (Days of Our Lives).

Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres‘ hit talk show earned eight nods, including one for Outstanding Talk Show, while The View scored five — including an Outstanding Talk Show Host nomination for hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth HasselbeckSherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters. The Oprah Winfrey Show scored four nominations for the TV legend’s popular program.

The winners of the 37th annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be unveiled at a ceremony in Las Vegas on June 27.
