So, Hannah’s with Adam, Marnie’s with Charlie, Shoshanna’s with Blonde Bar Patron #2, and Real Life Jessa’s off having a baby. And though long anticipated unions, cathartic speeches, shirtless runs through the New York night, and emphatic fanfare soundtracks might suggest a happy ending for the Girls gang, we know that there’s bound to be a tumble down a very steep hill for these characters. And the HBO series’ casting call for a handful of Season 3 roles all but proves it.

The calls opened for Girls‘ upcoming season seem to indicate a dark turn for the toxic twentysomethings. Posted on the agency’s Facebook page are nine descriptions of new Season 3 characters, suggesting where the following year will take the show’s story:

So what’s the big takeaway here? Rehab. But for whom?
Well, we know Adam is a recovering alcoholic who recently suffered a Hannah-inspired relapse. He’s the most likely option, as the call specifically mentions alcoholic characters. But there are alternatives route Girls could be taking with a rehab plotline.

We know that Hannah herself has endured a relapse with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, for which she has already begun to seek help (via Dr. Bob Balaban), and for which this new venue might provide some therapeutic aid.
Finally, we know that Jessa, courtesy of her conversation with temporary in-laws early in the second season, has had her share of drug issues in the past… possibly triggered up once again by the tumultuous reunion with her father we saw a few weeks back?
We’ll have to wait and see who this story engulfs. But someone is headed down a severe path in Year 3.
