‘Glee’ Will Dedicate Its Valentine’s Day Episode To Whitney Houston

Glee Mercedes and Santana Rumor Has ItIn an eerie coincidence, Glee’s next episode is set to air just days after the news of Whitney Houston’s passing and includes Mercedes (Amber Riley) singing Houston’s classic ballad “I Will Always Love You.” But the producers are taking steps to make sure the series enters into this territory properly, announcing that they will dedicate the episode to Houston’s memory.

In the episode, Mercedes will use the legendary song made famous by the film, The Bodyguard, to weigh her feelings about boyfriend Shane and ex-boyfriend Sam. Because the episode was obviously filmed long before the beloved singer passed, nothing in the episode will directly point to her memory. Rather, a card in the closing credits will denote the series’ gratitude to Houston for sharing her voice with the music world.

This dedication brings into question other musical shows that are produced live. Shows like American Idol and The Voice are likely to dedicate an episode to the musical legend as well, as they’ve both seen contestants run the gamut of her extensive catalog time and again. But will Glee eventually give Houston the same treatment as they did Michael Jackson or Madonna? She’s certainly enough of a musical icon to merit it.
