Ron Perlman is one of those actors in Hollywood that I would seriously bet money on in a fight. The man just looks rough, right? His chin looks like it could and has taken a few blows before. Luckily, he has joined the car-centric action movie Drive. The film also stars Ryan Gosling, who I also want to see in a fight, but for completely different reasons and outcomes.
Nicolas Winding Refn is directing the thriller. Gosling plays a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a get away driver (totally happens all the time in the business. I know a make up artist who doubles as a the person who zip lines onto the roof in bank heists, true story*) (*not true) who gets in trouble with an ex-con and his beautiful girlfriend. My bet is that Perlman will either play the ex-con or the beautiful girlfriend. We’ll probably have to wait until the trailer comes out to see for sure. Carey Mulligan will certainly play neither.
I’m not one for promoting violence in film (need to keep the kiddies peaceful!), but seriously Ron Perlman needs to fight Ryan Gosling in this film. They could make that the entire film. Just two straight hours of kicks and punches. Sure it would lose the basic plot, characterization, theme, and basically everything else that makes a film a film. But still, it would be Ron Perlman fighting Ryan Gosling!
