HBO’s ‘Eastbound & Down’ Coming Back for Fourth Season

Eastbound & DownHBO is in a renewing kind of mood lately: Monday, it was True Blood and The Newsroom, and Tuesday it’s Eastbound & Down, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It was long assumed that Eastbound would be a three-season show — primarily due to statements from series star/co-creator Danny McBride himself (earlier this year, he said, “We’ve always imagined this thing as something that we would keep short and not give it a chance to get old.”) — but clearly there’s been a change of heart, which will no doubt please the hordes of die-hard fans (and critics).

McBride plays Kenny Powers, a former professional baseball player who has fallen from grace but continues to try to return to the big leagues… to no avail. The most recent season of Eastbound — which is co-produced by McBride buddies Will Ferrell and Adam McKay — featured some big-name guest stars, including Matthew McConaughey and Saturday Night Live‘s Jason Sudeikis, and saw Kenny latching on with a Minor League team called the Myrtle Beach Mermen. During the previous season, he played in Mexico, which means the logical next step is obviously Japan!
