Hilary Duff teases Lizzie McGuire’s animated alter ego’s ‘epic return’

Hilary Duff has revealed more details about the upcoming Disney+ Lizzie Mcguire reboot.

The actress will reprise the iconic role, which she held throughout the original series from 2001 to 2004, in the new show, with stars Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas also returning for the forthcoming update as Lizzie’s family.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Love Leo Rescue second annual Cocktails for a Cause event at Rolling Greens Los Angeles on Wednesday (November 6, 2019), the star confessed the new show is “a dream come true”.

“We started filming and it was a long time coming…” she gushed. “We’re having a lot of fun and it just feels surreal.”

The new show will follow 30-year-old Lizzie living in New York and working as an apprentice to an interior decorator, and Hilary can’t wait to act out the struggles she herself faces in her 30s.

“That was part of the draw for me for coming back was the struggles that I feel as a 30-year-old,” she shared. “I think it’s really gonna be fun to go on the journey with her at 30. It’s the same Lizzie, but as an adult.”

Another character from the original show that will return is Lizzie’s animated alter ego that serves as her inner monologue, with Hilary teasing: “She’s gonna stay the same.

“She has an epic return and I am so excited,” the star added. “She’s really gonna be a lot of the comic relief in the show.”
