Documents a day in the life of Hugo Dugay, a twenty-something entrepreneur who owns a successful pool-cleaning business and is the only sane person in her family. Her mother, Minerva, is a gambling addict and her father, Henry, is trying to kick a menu of assorted drugs. Since their addictions have drained their bank accounts, Hugo hires both for a day. Mom travels with her daughter from house to house encountering a collage of eccentric personalities like the temperamental mobster, the loony film director who shot an extra for over-eating, and the wheel-chair-bound young man who has ALS. Meanwhile, Hugo's father treks to the Colorado River to get water for the mobster's pool and encounters a mysterious hitchhiker along the way.
