I’d love to do a Hello duet with Adele, says Lionel Richie

Lionel Richie has expressed his desire to duet with Adele at the Grammy Awards on Monday (15Feb16), after fans called for the pair to do a mash-up of their hits Hello.
British singer Adele is due to take to the stage despite not being nominated for a single honour this year – her album 25 was released outside the qualifying period for the Grammys. However, she will be performing for the star-studded audience, but has refused to reveal what her song choice will be.
This has led some fans to speculate that she will duet with Lionel, with calls for the pair will merge their hit singles Hello into a memorable performance. Adele’s track Hello was the first from her latest record 25, while Lionel released a song by the same name in 1984.
However Lionel, who is due to be the recipient of an all-star tribute at the Grammy’s after being honoured with the 2016 MusiCares Person of the Year on Saturday (13Feb16), doubts that it will come to fruition.
“I don’t think so,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “This is going to be her evening to shine. I think that she would probably not want to share the stage too much, although I would personally think that would be great!”
Adele has 10 Grammy Award wins to her name since her debut album 19 was released in 2008, and won all six awards she was nominated for at the ceremony in 2012, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
Lionel, who is a four-time Grammy Award winner, was honoured with the MusiCares Person of the Year award in a star-studded gala on Saturday, with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Rihanna, Usher, Lenny Kravitz, Jimmy Kimmel and John Legend attending. MusiCares is a charitable organisation set up by the Grammys, and it provides money to artists who have fallen into hardship or addiction, with past honourees including Sir Paul McCartney and Barbra Streisand.
However, the adoration for the veteran crooner doesn’t stop there, as there will be a musical tribute paid to Lionel at the ceremony on Monday. “That’s fantastic!” beamed the singer, who said he was looking forward to it.
The 58th annual Grammy Awards, hosted by rapper-turned-presenter LL Cool J, will take place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Monday.
