The Big Bang Theory is approaching a pretty serious milestone: its 100th episode. And according a recent interview with TVLine, creator Chuck Lorre has a pleasant surprise in store for fans. Penny and Leonard, a.k.a. the Ross and Rachel of the 21st century, aren’t quite done just yet. The 100th episode will mark the return to the prospect of Lenny or Peonard…okay, this is why they don’t have one of those annoying mashup nicknames.
When he spoke to TVLine, Lorre spilled a little about how the old ball gets to rolling again: “The friendship is going well, but then we throw in a moment where she was drunk and [said] she regretted breaking up with him. So, although it is a little risky, it felt like the right thing to do, to explore Leonard and Penny again in the 100th episode. It felt true to the characters that they would want to try again.”
Of course, this doesn’t mean that episode 100 will see a complete and total resolution for the pair, but that door is going to be open again. Besides, it wouldn’t be interesting to watch such a tortured relationship get a nice, tidy resolution in a matter of a 20-minute episode. Good television is bourne out of conflict, let’s just be happy that the source of that conflict is going to be the would-be relationship that drew us in from the first episode.
