Jesse Jackson Calls for TV Ban on Racial Slurs

Civil rights campaigner Rev. Jesse Jackson has called for a blanket ban on racial slurs in TV shows and films after Michael Richards‘ racist tirade at two black men in a Los Angeles comedy club.

When he appeared on Jackson’s radio show “Keep Hope Alive” on Sunday, former Seinfeld star Richards insisted he is not a racist and is “shattered” by the comments he made.

Jackson, who previously condemned Richards‘ outburst as “sick” and “hateful,” has arranged meetings with TV and movie executives in the coming weeks to discuss outlawing derogatory terms.

He says, “We want to give our ancestors a Christmas present.”

According to Richards‘ publicist, Howard Rubenstein, he has begun psychiatric counseling to learn how to manage his anger and understand why he made the racist remarks.
