‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Moves to 11:35, Opposite Leno and Letterman

Jimmy KimmelAs far as ratings go, Jay Leno has dominated over the late night circuit for years. While the Tonight Show host consistently reigns supreme with viewers, his CBS competitor David Letterman is the critical favorite for his caustic wit on The Late Show. And these are the warriors of the 11:35 PM time slot. No one even dares to get into the ring with the legends… no one until now. The New York Times reports that Jimmy Kimmel, host of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, has earned a promotion from a midnight broadcast to 11:35 PM, facing off against Leno and Letterman.

Presently airing at 11:35 PM on ABC is Nightline, which will be pushed to 12:35 AM to accommodate Kimmel’s new position. The move likely comes as a result of Kimmel’s successful turn as the host of the 2012 White Host Correspondence Dinner, and his upcoming stint as host of the Emmys. Kimmel has led JKL! since 2003, and consistently provides some of the funniest celebrity banter and original material in the realm of late night television.

Kimmel will move to 11:35 PM in January 2013.
