Jimmy Kimmel ‘Takes Umbrage’ with Jay Leno on ‘Larry King Now’

Jimmy Kimmel

Over the summer, ABC’s longtime late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel was boosted up to the first tier when his series, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was awarded a new time slot: the coveted (yet challenging) 11:35 PM position, opposite big dogs Jay Leno and David Letterman. Although he’s now a competitor with both of the late night circuit’s primary players, Kimmel has shown no reserve in his loyalties: he is, and always will be, a fan of Letterman… and a staunch critic of Leno.

Kimmel met up with another talk show icon, one Larry King, on the bespectacled legend’s Hulu series Larry King Now. On the show, King and Kimmel engaged in a discussion about the world of late night, prompting Kimmel to offer some candid words regarding his feelings about Jay Leno, touching upon Leno’s inception as The Tonight Show host and the debacle surrounding Conan O’Brien’s dismissal from the NBC position in 2010:

Sincere as he was, Kimmel was open to delving into the matter with a lighter heart, and offered King his noteworthy Jay Leno impersonation:

The episode also allowed Kimmel to showcase his admiration for Letterman, a figure with whom he has regularly attributed his inspiration to get into the businesses of comedy and talk show hosting:

And finally, Kimmel’s general feelings on the “late night war.” He’s confident he won’t be the victor anytime soon, but he seems happy just to be in the game:
