Judd Apatow Says HBO’s Greenlit ‘Girls’ Season 3

Fans of HBO’s Girls, today’s your lucky day. That’s because you’re likely about to get not one but two further seasons of young, money-challenged twentysomethings struggling to survive in New York. According to Judd Apatow in an interview with DP/30, a third season of the Lena Dunham comedy, for which Apatow serves as an executive producer, is about to go into production. HBO hasn’t officially confirmed the news but a rep at the pay cable network tells Hollywood.com in a statement, “We’re looking forward to the launch of season two and hope to have good news shortly thereafter.”

The move would be unprecedented for HBO because they almost always greenlight an additional season of a series after the current season has already premiered. (See: Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.) Girls‘ second season doesn’t even bow until January 13. But it seems the network was heartened by the intense media attention given to the show earlier this year and also by the five Emmy nominations it received in July.

Excited by the news?
