Keep the Faith, Baby | 2001
Biopic of the controversial, late African-American Congressman from Harlem (New York), Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. A charismatic minister and politician, Powell is beloved by his constituents in Harlem, but villified by his many powerful enemies in Washington. Even as others plot against him, he is able to help pass an unprecedented amount of progressive social legislation. After several years of marriage, Powell's glamorous second wife, jazz pianist Hazel Scott, realizes that he is more committed to his career and the people he serves than his family. She takes their 12-year-old son and leaves for Paris. Later, after House members vote to deny him his seat, the scandal-plagued Powell retreats to the Bimini Islands, where journalist Joe Schiller tracks him down to get his fascinating story.
