Synopsis

A fact-based drama about Caryl Chessman, California's famous "red light bandit," who was arrested in 1948 and convicted under an obsolete statute that carried the death penalty. Chessman spent twelve years on death row in San Quentin, during which time his case became a famous cause celebre for opponents of capital punishment, before his execution in May 1960. Alda's performance got him an Emmy Award nomination.
