From 2003-2012, I was obsessed with The CW‘s One Tree Hill. Seriously, I rocked with this show from middle school to high school. I fell in and out of love with both Nathan and Lucas, I plotted Dan’s death and I made Brooke my BFF in my head. Like most shows, One Tree Hill started off pretty cut and dry in terms of storylines, but as the teen drama wore on, the plots got even more outlandish and far-fetched. Still, I stuck by OTH until the very end.
One of the most nauseating characters on the show (besides Dan and Deb) was Chris Keller, the most annoying musician known to man. Not only did he interfere with Haley and Nathan’s marriage, he also made himself the third wheel in Brooke and Lucas’ already tumultuous relationship. He was truly THE WORST. It seems like I’m not the only one who feels this way. Reddit user EmperorJoker has suggested that there may be a major reason why Chris Keller was a piece of trash. EmperorJoker theorizes that Keller was actually another one of Dan Scott’s illegitimate sons. They suggest, “It explains a lot of what Keller did and why. [He] pursued Hayley to mess with Nathan and … he slept with Brooke to do the same to Lucas. [Keller] was more manipulative than the characters realized. Also when he met Dan, Dan said he reminded him of himself and made a joke asking if he knew his mother… this implies Dan could possibly have had other children.”
EmperorJoker goes on to say that Chris knew Lucas and Nathan hated him from the jump which prompted him to try and take everything from them. It was only when he met Dan did his plans stop. EmperorJoker says, “[He] was a manipulative sociopath who hid behind a facade of what the other characters perceived to be his stupidity.”
What do you guys think of this theory? Surely in 187 episodes there might be some evidence that completely disproves this. But then again, this is the same show where Dan’s new heart was eaten by a Golden Retriever.
