Matthew McConaughey, TNT Team Up to Add to Singing-Competition Overload

Matthew McConaugheyTNT and TBS unveiled some new and upcoming projects ahead of their upfront presentations Wednesday. Among them? A singing-competition show, American Troubadours, from Matthew McConaughey and American Idol‘s Nigel Lythgoe.

Not too much in the way of specifics is available yet on the TNT series (a safe bet is that McConaughey, still too famous at this point in his career for the likes of basic cable, would be involved as a big-name producer only), but the goal of Troubadours is to “find the best unsigned bar band in America.”

Other projects of note for TNT: The Michael Bay-produced (and potentially -directed) action/adventure adaptation The Last Ship; Tom Clancy’s espionage procedural Homeland Security; and 24/7: Los Angeles, an unscripted, all-access series that follows “the men and women who protect the mean streets” of L.A.

Over at sibling network TBS, meanwhile, are two Conan O’Brien-produced series (Most Likely, Zone Lord) and a Norm MacDonald quasi-talk show called Norm MacDonald Is Trending. Could this finally be the one that works for Norm??
