Remember the little girl from Harriet the Spy who started showing up on Buffy The Vampire Slayer as Buffy’s annoying little sister and ruining the whole show? Then, a few years later pulled a similar stunt as the incredibly grating sometimes-villain Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl? Well guess what? That girl’s about to get her own show.
Why the CW would give Michelle Trachtenberg – a.k.a. one of the most annoying television actresses out there – her own show is beyond me, but the damage is done. The wheels are up, and the CW just ordered a script for a drama that will star Trachtenberg.
Trachtenberg’s idea for her soon-to-be small screen leading lady is a young criminology student who’s got a knack for profiling. Oh, and guess what? She’s got a dark past. No, really? So basically, it’s Veronica Mars minus the snark, wit, and charm of the always adorable (and girl-crush worthy) Kristen Bell with whiny brooding added in? Thanks, but I’ll pass.
But there’s one factor that may do me in. Of course the show will be the spawn of Gossip Girl and The O.C. masterminds Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, which probably means it will be like crack for fans of teen drama despite the fact that the main character is abhorrent. (Think about it. Did anyone actually like Marissa Cooper from The O.C.? Nope, I didn’t think so.) As much as I hate to admit this publicly, The O.C. and Gossip Girl hooked me hard core. We’re talking rehab-level, watch an entire season in a single day addiction here, folks. I’m a little worried that I’ve got another addiction coming on, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if the Schwartz-Savage magic touch can overcome its repellent star.
