Widower Johnny Tobin, a Vietnam veteran, lives with his 12-year-old daughter, Stacy, in Las Vegas, where he works as a boxman. Since his wife's death over a year ago, he regularly visits a prostitute named Irene. When one of Irene's johns, who happens to be carrying $560,000 on him, dies in her company, she persuades Johnny to become her partner in crime: she wants him to gamble the cash with one roll of the dice. If they win, they give the money to the owners and keep the profits. If they lose, Irene promises not to further involve Johnny. Wracked with debt, Johnny agrees to participate in her wild scheme. The mob is soon after them when they lay claim to the money.
