Due to the overwhelming success of the reality show The Osbournes, an inside peek at heavy-metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne and his strange family, MTV is looking to fill its programming slate with six new reality series.
“We’re going after a new generation of MTV viewers,” MTV and MTV2 President Van Toffler told The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re taking program genres that have traditionally aired elsewhere on television and putting them on their heads.”
The first of the new shows being aired over the next two months is Taildaters, a dating game in which a couple is followed by two friends and given advice along the way. It airs Saturday, April 6 at 8:30 p.m.
Also in the works is a Real World-type look at a northern California sorority house, and Virgin Chronicles, a series produced by Full House star John Stamos, in which music stars talk about their firsts: first kiss, first car, first gig, etc., reports The Hollywood Reporter.
“Our goal is to always have something that everybody is talking about in culture,” MTV Entertainment President Brian Graden told The Hollywood Reporter.
As far as MTV’s hit show The Osbournes, Graden promised that there’s “absolutely a possibility” additional episodes of the show will be ordered beyond the original 10.
“We just want to give the Osbournes a little space so they’re comfortable with being on TV. All indications are that they are.”
This is good news for its growing legions of fans.
