My Mother the Car | 1965
While looking at station wagons in a used car lot, Dave Crabtree becomes fascinated with a decrepit 1928 Porter. When he hears a feminine voice call his name, he investigates and discovers that the voice which is emerging from the Porter's radio is that of his late mother, now reincarnated as a car. (No mention is made of what became of the car's previous soul, or indeed how a car can have a soul.)
Dave purchases the Porter. When he returns home, he encounters the objections of his family, who want a station wagon. Hoping to change their minds, Dave has the Porter overhauled in a custom body shop. But the family, much to Dave's sorrow, still hates Mom.
Concealing the astounding fact of his mother's reincarnation, Dave struggles to defend her from his hostile family and from the devious machinations of Captain Bernard Manzini, an antique car collector who is determined to add the Porter to his collection.
