What goes around comes around. At least perhaps for Eminem. The controversial rapper finds himself competing alongside the hotties of ’N Sync, the boyband he lambastes in his hit single “The Real Slim Shady,” after the nominations for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards were announced today.
’N Sync and Em scored six nominations apiece and will square off in the video of the year and viewer’s choice categories. “The Real Slim Shady” also garnered nods for best male video, best direction in a video, best rap video and best editing in a video.
’N Sync’s “Bye Bye Bye” also earned nominations for best group video, best dance video, best pop video and best choreography in a video.
The other nominees for video of the year: Blink-182’s “All the Small Things,” D’Angelo’s “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Californication.”
The Chili Peppers, Metallica and Sisquo each earned five nominations apiece. Teen queens Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera garnered four nods, as did Macy Gray and D’Angelo.
Britney Spears Britney’s “Oops!…I Did It Again” and Christina’s “What A Girl Wants” will compete against Toni Braxton’s “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” Macy Gray’s “I Try” and Aaliyah’s “Try Again” in the best female video category.
“Total Request Live” host Carson Daly and ’N Sync joined this year’s award show hosts, Shawn and Marlon Wayans, in MTV’s Times Square studios to announce this year’s nominees.
The show is scheduled for Sept. 7 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
