Nicole Ritchie Comes Back To TV

Nicole RichieThat strange slurping sound you hear in the distance is the noise of thousands of celebrity news writers licking their lips in anticipation. One of reality TV’s original trainwrecks, Nicole Richie, is back on the air. Richie will be a celebrity mentor to the contestants on NBC’s new reality competition Fashion Star. Think Tim Gunn, but without the charisma. The… actor? fashion person? unintentional comedian? joins the ranks of fellow celebrity participants Jessica Simpson, Elle Macpherson and John Varvatos. Between Richie and Simpson, NBC must be aiming for the coveted “people nostalgic for early 2000’s celebrity reality shows” demographic. If you can really call three people a demographic.

“NBC could not have asked for better additions to the celebrity mentors than… international style icon and creative director Nicole Richie,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC executive. “Both are trendsetters and tastemakers and their design skills and expertise will be invaluable to our contestants on the series.”

Richie’s last TV appearance was on Project Runway in 2010. Since then, she has unveiled a new 14 piece handbag collection for her fashion line, House of Harlow 1960. No word from NBC yet on the release date, but I hope it’s not until after the world ends in 2012, so that I won’t have to report on it.
