A stage manager appears to introduce the audience to the people of Grovers Corners, a small town in New Hampshire. It is a morning in May 1901 when Emily Webb, daughter of the newspaper editor, and George Gibbs, a doctor's son, fall in love. Three years later George and Emily marry; in 1911, Emily dies giving birth. The story relates Emily's feelings about life when she accepts a celestial offer to relive one day in her life. Adapted from the 1938 play by Thornton Wilder.
In addition to the titles that follow, "Our Town" has also been seen as a segment of the following series: "Robert Montgomery Presents" (NBC, April 10, 1950) with Burgess Meredith (Stage Manager) and Jean Gillespie (Emily); and "Pulitzer Prize Playhouse" (ABC, December 1, 1950) with Edward Arnold (Stage Manager) and Betty Caulfield (Emily).
