Synopsis

An eleven-part adaptation based on John Mortimer's book about the social and political upheavals in Britain since World War II. The drama illuminates why the Eden-like society that politicians promised after the war never materialized. The plot, which moves back and forth in time, involves the strange legacy of the late Reverend Simeon Simcox, a left-wing, wealthy clergyman, who leaves his estate to a right-wing Conservative politician.
