Mila Kunis accepts Harvard University Hasty Pudding honour

Mila Kunis accepted Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year honour in Massachusetts on Thursday (25Jan18).
Members of the nation’s oldest collegiate theatrical organisation selected Kunis as this year’s recipient for her “lasting and impressive contributions to the world of entertainment”, and saluted her during a parade in Harvard Square and then at a roast.
Mila’s big day was marred by online protests from activists who felt the actress should turn down the honour as a protest over the fact only men perform in Hasty Pudding Theatricals shows, often in drag.
Responding to the backlash on the troupe’s website, a spokesman writes: “For decades, women have held critical positions within the Hasty Pudding Theatricals as presidents, producers, writers, composers, and executive advisors.
“Men in women’s roles is the Hasty Pudding’s artistic trademark and its artistic merit comes from the fact that it challenges traditional perceptions of masculinity. This brand of parody and satire is what makes the Pudding unique.”
The Bad Moms star succeeds Octavia Spencer as the organisation’s Woman of the Year.
Paul Rudd will be celebrated as the Man of the Year at an upcoming event.
