Planet of the Apes | 1974
A U.S. Air Force space capsule, launched in the year 1988, penetrates a radioactive turbulence area and passes through a time barrier that propels it to the year 3085 and into a world ruled by highly intelligent apes who use mute and stupid human beings as draft animals and laborers. The astronauts, Alan Virdon and Pete Burke, are captured and imprisoned by the apes, who fear the humans will revolt.
Intrigued by the intelligence of the astronauts, Galen, a kindly, enlightened ape, befriends them. However, distrustful of the astronauts, Veska, an ape leader, plans to kill them. When Galen discovers Veska's plan, he helps Pete and Alan to escape, whereupon the three are declared fugitives. The series depicts Pete and Alan's efforts, assisted by Galen, to return to the Earth of the 1980s.
