Synopsis

Albert Finney made his American TV acting debut in this reverential drama tracing the life and career of Karol Wojtyla from a young activist in his native Poland (played at that point by British newcomer Michael Crompton) to his installation in 1978 as Pope. An earlier movie about Pope John Paul II, "From a Far Country", made as a British/Polish co-production, premiered on television in 1981.
