Preview the 2017 ’40th Annual Kennedy Center Honors’

The Kennedy Center Honors is a lifetime achievement award given to men and women for their contributions to American culture.

There have been a total of 200 recipients over the years and this year was the 40th one. The event is normally attended by the current sitting president except for a total of 5 times that they have not. Donald Trump has chosen not to participate this year.

The honorees are Actress, Dancer and Choreographer Carmen de Lavallade, Singer-Songwriter and Actress Gloria Estefan, Hip Hop Artist LL COOL J, Television Writer and Producer Norman Lear and Renowned Musician and Record Producer Lionel Richie. LL is the first nominee out of the hip-hop community with hopefully much more to follow in the future.

The 40th Annual Kennedy Center Honors can be seen on tv Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at 9 PM ET on CBS.
