Prodigy’s public memorial service ends in brawl

A public memorial held to celebrate the life of late rap icon Prodigy ended in a police showdown on Thursday (29Jun17) when a mourner was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Fans were invited to bid farewell to the Mobb Deep MC following a star-studded funeral at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel in New York City, but the event was marred by one unruly man, who found himself in trouble with cops after blocking pedestrians with his car.
According to video footage obtained by TMZ.com, officers repeatedly asked him to move his vehicle, but he refused, engaging in a shouting match with a cop, before fighting with authorities as police tried to take him into custody.
He was eventually placed in handcuffs and booked for resisting arrest, obstruction, and disorderly conduct.
The brief drama took place a few hours after hip-hop stars like LL Cool J, Ice-T, The Roots musician Questlove, and Prodigy’s Mobb Deep bandmate Havoc turned up to pay their respects to the tragic rapper.
Prodigy, real name Albert Johnson, died on 20 June (17), aged 42, days after he was hospitalised following a show in Las Vegas for “complications caused by a sickle cell anaemia crisis”, the blood cell disorder he had battled from birth.
