Synopsis

Documentary examines the thirteen years of Prohibition in the United States, as mandated by the 18th Amendment to the Constitution. The special presents a study of the "dry" years that are often represented in popular culture by flappers, speakeasies, gangsters and G-men. America's craving for alcohol turned honest citizens into bootleggers while gangsters flourished and widespread corruption seeped into America's institutions, ranging from the police to the White House.
