Bad news and good news for Bryant Gumbel. The bad news is NBC’s unstoppable “Today” is adding a third hour to its weekday broadcasts come the fall; the good news is Bryant Gumbel’s beyond-low-rated CBS show only runs two hours each day so it can’t possibly get pasted (in the 9-10 a.m. time slot, anyway) by the added dose of Matt and Katie.
NBC — giddily — announced its plans for its top-rated morning news institution today. (All part of the here’s-our-new-fall-TV-schedule fun.)
Effective the fall, “Today” anchors Katie Couric and Matt Lauer, as well as news reader Ann Curry and resident portly man, er, weatherman Al Roker will man the airwaves from 7-10 a.m. EDT/PDT Monday through Friday.
The Florence Henderson-manned “Later Today,” which currently airs in the 9-10 a.m. time slot on the Peacock, will be moved to the 10-11 a.m. position on NBC’s 13 owned-and-operated stations in New York, Los Angeles and other major cities.
