Rebecca Adlington ‘best of friends’ with estranged husband

Rebecca Adlington and her estranged husband Harry Needs are still “the best of friends”.
The 27-year-old Olympic swimmer shocked fans when she announced the end of her 18-month marriage in March (16). But in a new interview, Rebecca insisted she and Harry are very much focused on the wellbeing of their nine-month-old daughter Summer, and are not letting their split affect their relationship.
“We are still very much the best of friends,” Rebecca told the Irish Mirror. “And it’s not like we’re not talking, because we are – we talk all the time. We are both just working hard on trying to be good parents, and our total focus is on our daughter.”
It seems that despite Summer’s tender age, she is already showing an aptitude for the sport that made her parents famous. Former The Jump contestant Rebecca and Harry, also a swimmer, regularly take their little girl to swimming lessons.
“We are both so sporty so we take her swimming, and I would be very surprised if Summer doesn’t grow up to be very sporty and active,” Rebecca added.
A love of the water isn’t the only thing Summer has inherited from her mother. Rebecca admitted that while her daughter has yet to reach her first birthday, she turns one on 8 June (16), she is already showing similar personality traits to her mother.
“She’s only nine months old but her personality is coming out – she’s already so independent, and knows exactly what she wants to do… so she’s a bit like me,” Rebecca laughed.
Rebecca and Harry tied the knot at a countryside wedding in Staffordshire in August 2014, before welcoming Summer in June last year (15).
She has previously admitted that giving birth put a strain on their relationship, with Rebecca having to go back to work a mere two months after welcoming Summer to provide for her young family. The average period of maternity leave in the UK is eight months.
Speaking to The Daily Mail Rebecca explained that being a new parent was “b**ody hard work” and “harder than setting a world record.” She also confessed the strain had caused “plenty of arguments” between her and Harry.
