Since Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globe awards in January, speculation regarding his return to next year’s ceremony has ranged from essentially “zero chance” to, well, optimism. File this latest rumor under the latter category.
New reports state that Gervais was very recently wined and dined by a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and a higher-up at NBC, with a possible offer being extended to Gervais. The New York Post suggests that the offer was, in fact, made.
The most recent Globes ceremony was watched by 17 million viewers — a substantial spike from the previous year’s telecast — but Gervais was criticized by many, including Johnny Depp recently (sorta), for going too far with his jokes at many an A-lister attendee’s expense.
