Ricky Gervais to Write for U.S. ‘Office’

The Office creator Ricky Gervais has been approached to write an episode for the third series of the hit U.S. version of the comedy.

The English comedian starred as cringe-inducing boss David Brent in the original BBC version of the show and sold the concept to U.S. TV network NBC, who cast The 40 Year-Old Virgin star Steve Carell as the Brent-like manager Michael Scott.

Gervais says, “The success of the American Office is overwhelming. It’s a pleasure and honor to continue being involved.

“They’ve could’ve panicked and watered it down, overreacted for live studio catchphrases and unrealistic characters begging for laughs–but they didn’t.”
