‘Rome’ Director Joins Jesse L. Martin for ABC’s ‘Hallelujah’

Michael AptedHot on the trail of musical vet Jesse L. Martin’s decision to join the cast of Marc Cherry’s new musical pilot for ABC, Rome director Michael Apted signs on as the show’s fearless captain. While Hallelujah is more American Gothic than an opulent project like Rome, Apted has had his share of experience helming features like The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader and the Bond picture, The World is Not Enough. As for the show itself, the addition of Martin definitely ups the ante, quieting a few previously loud apprehensions. Now with the news that Apted, who captured that Roman world of decadence, will be behind the camera for this venture, I’m actually intrigued. As long as Cherry’s not planning on letting things get too desperate (Housewives), I think this may actually be a refreshing new show for the fall season.
