Russell Brand on ‘SNL’: The Skits You Missed

Through the magic of flight Russell Brand managed to be in New York to host Saturday Night Live on…well…Saturday night before flying all the way across the country to see his wife perform at the Grammys with their wedding video projected on her enormous skirt. You can say it, aw. What a nice little Valentine’s Day story. While I’m happy to see them being all cutesy and romantic at this time of year, Russell certainly had his own bit of fun on SNL, though I’m pretty sure he could have given us more. Sadly, that seems to be the case with hosts that started out as famous standup comedians, like Russell and Zach Galifianakis, who both seem to tone down their usual antics to suit the wider audience.

Lucky for you, we’ve picked out the essential bits that are actually worth watching like — and get this — the genuinely funny monologue. I know, right? The monologue is rarely the best part, but because he’s just a genuinely funny person, they just let good ol’ Russell do his thing for a few minutes. (Besides, he shares a little bit about his marriage to Katy Perry — do I have your attention now?)

Making sure to take advantage of Brand’s Britishness, the digital short treated us to an upcoming super exciting, action packed, totally awesome (fake) movie trailer for a film that’ll get your heart racing. It was entertaining and gave Russell a chance to get all cockney, but can someone tell SNL that Snatch came out 10 years ago? Real timely, guys.

Then there’s the sketch that made little to no sense and wasn’t inherently funny, but seemed to be trying to be a little Monty Python-esque, plus seeing Russell Brand dressed as an old, distinguished British lady is stupidly entertaining. Good day to you.
