‘Saturday Night Live’ Adds 3 Chicago Comedians to Cast

Second CityMany Saturday Night Live fans fear that the upcoming season of NBC’s sketch comedy program will feature a palpable void, thanks to the loss of stars like Abby Elliott, Andy Samberg, and (here’s the really tough break) Kristen Wiig. But Lorne Michaels‘ series has taken to adopting three fresh comic voices, whose talents will hopefully make up for the absence of Khloe Kardashianisms, Digital Shorts, and the constant onslaught of magic that Wiig brought audiences every week. NBC confirms that SNL has hired three on-the-rise Chicago comedians as Featured Players: Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson, and Cecily Strong.

All three of these new cast members have toured with famed Chicago improv troupes The Second City and iO Chicago. You can see clips of their work below:

Here is a video written by and starring Bryant, in the vein perhaps of Samberg’s Digital Shorts style of comedy (in other words, silly and insane).

Tim Robinson

Robinson appears in the below sketch that channels the age-old source of comedy: ugly babies.

Cecily Strong

Reminiscent of SNL‘s staple of commercial parodies, Strong appears in the sketch below mocking ads for feminine hygiene products.
