Seth Meyers Could Take Over for Jimmy Fallon: Five Clips That Show He’s the Host We Need

Seth Meyers Could Replace the Tonight Show Bound Jimmy Fallon

So what is this now, Late Night War III? With NBC kicking Jay Leno out of the Tonight Show hosting gig by fall 2014 and positioning Jimmy Fallon to take over — they’re already building a state-of-the-art new studio for Fallon at New York’s 30 Rock — that leaves one big question: who will take over for Fallon as the host of Late Night at 12:35? Well, the New York Post claims to have an answer. The newspaper is saying that megaproducer Lorne Michaels hopes to place Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers in the Late Night host desk, meaning that NBC will have two hours of nightly comedy led by SNL alums.

Jay Leno Jokes About His Firing from ‘The Tonight Show’

If you ask us, Meyers is the perfect man for the job. On Weekend Update, he’s like the eye of the storm. He lets the crazy happen around him, adding only some wry quips now and then that show he knows how to draw out the best from his guests. He’s the perfect straight man, which is the comedic skill set best suited for hosting duties. Just look at how he interacts with Bill Hader‘s Stefon.

Did Danny DeVito down too many limoncellos? No problem — Meyers’ experiences with drunk uncle prove he can handle an inebriated guest.

When it comes to monologues, Meyers has already proved that he’s “really” up for the job.

Meyers also proved he could go to-to-toe with heavyweights like Poehler, Fey, and Fallon during this classic joke-off.

Finally, Meyers already proved he could handle the toughest crowd of all when he hosted the White House Correspondents Dinner.

So, what do you think — is Meyers the man for the job? Shout yay or nay in the comments!
