Shelley Conn Joins Fox’s ‘Terra Nova’

ALT TEXTFox’s new Steven Spielberg/Peter Chernin-produced adventure show Terra Nova has found its leading lady — British actress Shelley Conn.

Conn — relatively unknown in the U.S. — has worked extensively in U.K. television. In the show, she’ll play Elizabeth Shannon, wife to Jim Shannon (Jason O’Mara) and mother to three children. For those who haven’t heard, Terra Nova is going to be craaazy. It will tell the story of the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 who are transplanted 85 million years back in time to prehistoric Earth to the colony of Terra Nova — a community of humans who have a second chance to build civilization.

The idea seems a bit wild (especially for network television), but with the minds of Spielberg and Chernin — the same dudes who brought us Band of Brothers, 24, FlashForward, and The Pacific — we have faith that Terra Nova will be a success. After all, I bet when J.J. Abrams pitched the idea for Lost, the network looked at him like he was crazy and was like, “Wait, you want to build an entire TV show around being stranded on a mystical island that travels through time and is the host of ancient monsters?” And look at us now! We all know how depressed we are during Lost’s former weekly time slot now. Damnit. Why did it have to end? Just one more episode! Why?!

Anyway, what was I talking about? Oh yeah . Terra Nova. Bottom line, it’s going to be crazy and awesome and fun. But I’m willing to be that Fox somehow screws it up. Just saying.
