‘Sherlock 2’ Gets A New Title!

Naked Robert Downey JrIt’s turning out to be a big week for movie title announcements. First we have Spider-Man’s new “amazing” title and now we learn that Guy Richie’s sequel of Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law has been officially named. The new name?

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

I guess this makes sense. I’m pretty sure Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would not like his greatest legacy tainted with the ill-begotten numeral 2 transfixed upon his effigy. Nay! The world’s greatest detective does not deal with Arabic, nor Roman, nor any other means “property possessed by a sum or total or indefinite quantity of units or individuals.” It’s rather elementary that a film based on such an esteemed mind would not be burdened with such a screaming sign of “sequel” that would blemish a sterling reputation. Hanging a number after your name should only be reserved if you are royalty (and that does happen to be your case you have more prominent issues to worry about than how silly your name looks) and I do not believe Holmes would blot his name with such nonsense.

And yet, “a game of shadows” sounds completely stupid. The game is over as soon as someone whips out the flashlight. Which, considering RDJ’s Sherlock, he might just do.
