Simon Cowell’s hit talent shows were inspired by awful singer

Simon Cowell came up with the idea for his Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent TV hits while he was watching a singer “murder” a tune.

The music mogul reveals he was watching an unnamed “rival” show at home when he came up with a brainwave.

“There was this girl who was so terrible, murdering this song; I remember it was Get Here,” Simon said during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, “and I thought, ‘I’d actually rather watch dogs dancing than listen to that’.

“I thought, ‘You know what, I’m gonna make a show where dogs can dance…’ and I swear to God that was it.”

But he admitted his TV shows are only as good as the contestants.

“If you don’t have great contestants you have no show… and they’ve gotta trust you,” he added. “On all the shows I’ve done, it’s only good when you look back… and that’s why shows work.”
