One of the most beloved chick flicks of all time is coming to THE chick-flick network: Steel Magnolias and Lifetime, respectively.
A TV-movie version — not a series, rather surprisingly — is in the works, with Hairspray producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron spearheading the project and A Raisin in the Sun helmer Kenny Leon on board to direct.
In stark contrast to the 1989 film’s almost all-white cast (including Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton and more), the contemporary Lifetime update would feature a mostly black cast in the same roles.
