Fans of The CW‘s Supergirl were shocked to discover that the newest vigilante on the superhero show is actually photographer, James Olsen (played by mega hottie Mehcad Brooks). Supergirl Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed yesterday that, “These next few episodes are going to make [James] realize that being a photographer is not enough for him, so he’s going to go on a pretty exciting career trajectory that we’re really pumped by. James is going to decide that he can no longer sit back and be a sidekick, so he’s going to decide to become a vigilante. He’s going to become Guardian, complete with the shield, which is going to cause a massive problem in his relationship with Kara because he has decided not to tell her. Now there’s this new masked vigilante, and she has her own feelings about vigilantes, and it becomes a push and pull about who gets to decide who gets to be a hero?”
Guardian was created in the DC Comics universe by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon way back in 1942. He was a persona taken on by Metropolis police officer Jim Harper, who wanted to catch the crooks he was unable to grab during his day job. So Guardian doesn’t exactly have superpowers, but he’s a badass with amazing fighting skills. Guardian’s outfit has certainly gotten an upgrade since 1942, and we say it’s definitely for the best. Check out James Olsen as Guardian for yourself below.
With Jimmy Olsen taking on the persona, it looks like he’ll have a bit of help from Winn on the tech side of things which will hopefully make his job a bit easier. (After all, he’s no man of steel.)
Supergirl airs on The CW Monday nights!
