Susan Smith: Nine Days of Deception | 1999
When Susan Smith collapsed sobbing on her neighbor's front doorstep, begging for help, the small town of Union, South Carolina jumped to her aid. She said she'd been carjacked, forced to leave her children in the backseat. But by the time police tried to get Susan to give them more specifics, they started to realize something wasn't quite right about this story. While still pursuing the mythical carjacker, police privately figured that Susan had lied about the carjacking and had hidden her children somewhere. To find out where, they went through the motions of a manhunt, hoping Susan would make a mistake. She did. After nine days of cat-and-mouse games, police learned the sad truth about the fate of her children.
